12.rather，fairly
两者在表示相当地、多多少少地、有一点的意思时，用法上有所不同。Rather常用来修饰一些表示不愉快的形容词，fairly常用来修饰好的、愉快的场合。试比较：
（1）This is a fairly easy book.
（2）his is a rather easy book.
句（1）意为这本书相当浅易。（但比较合适）。句（2）意为这本书太浅易（由于太浅易所以不合适）。再者，rather可以与比较级、too、名词和动词连用，而fairly不可以，如：This hat is rather more expensive than that.这顶帽子比那一顶贵得多。This book is rather difficult for the juniors and rather too easyfor the seniors.这本书对低年级学生太难，对高年级学生又太容易。We were all rather exhausted when we got to the top of the mountain.我们到达山顶时都相当疲惫了。上述句子中的rather都不为fairly所代替。
13.some，any
两者均作副词时，意思均为有些、有几分，但some一般用于肯定句中；any用在疑问句或否定句中：Is he any better today?Yes,he is some better.他今天好一些了吗？是的，稍微好点了。We couldnt bear the sound any longer.我们再也受不了这声音啦。Did you sleep any last night？你昨天夜里睡了点觉吗？
14.sometimes，sometime，some time
这三者用法不同，所表达的概念也不一样，要注意区别对待。Sometimes表示有时或不时；sometime表示某一天或某时：；而some time则表示一会儿或一定的时间。试比较下列例句：I sometimes think that it is a good idea.我有时想这是个好主意。We decided to have a get-together sometime next month.我们决定下个月找个时间聚一下。They left the conference room for some time.他们离开会场一会儿。
