英语句法中，副词的种类较多，可以用来表示时间、地点、方式、目的、原因、结果、程度、让步、条件、比较、频率等。其中有种用来表达在方面或在上的副词，值得特别注意。
这种副词主要以-ly结尾，其中以-al形容词加上-ly的居多。例如：
（1） This sentence is grammatically faulty. （在语法方面）
（2） Is every citizen politically equal? （在政治方面）
（3） The opponents were defeated not only militarily but also morally, psychologically and politically. （军事上、道德上、心理上和政治上）
（4） More and more young people have become economically independent.（在经济方面）
（5） Ideas which are theoretically sound may not work in practice.（理论上）
（6） The strategy used is logically appropriate. （逻辑上）
